Q:
I had breast cancer and surgery in 1997, in my left breast. Now I might have colon cancer, my left lung has a nodule, and my right breast shows a mass. What are the probabilities of having 3 different kind of cancer at the same time? Are all my present cancers an off set of my breast cancer?
A: it would be unusual to have 3 primary cancers at the same time. take this a step at a time. sounds like some biopsies need to happen to know what you are dealing with. so begin there....

Q:
I went to the doctor thinking I had an IDC which would be removed via lumpectomy after neoadjuvant chemo. It turns out that the redness, warmth, swelling and pain in my breast is a different kind of cancer, IBC. How does this change what I can expect from treatment? What impact does it have on my 5 year prognosis? I am scared and upset. the original tumor has now grown out through the skin of my breast. It is painful. the whole breast looks diseased. Having breast cancer was hard enough to accept, but this changes things again! I should mention that a recent SNB was negative. Hopefully that is something in my favor.
A: it does alter the game plan... so the clinical staging would be stage III based on diagnosis of inflammatory breast cancer. neoadjuvant chemo is recommended as first treatment and hopefully it will be highly effective. the ability to do lumpectomy is lost however. mastectomy is needed. really glad to hear sentinel node was negative. great news. radiation will be needed post mastectomy. delayed reconstruction can be done but must wait quite a while... couple of years. Q:
Hello, I was told by my GP today that @ aged 70 years I do not need to have any more mammograms, which I have been having at 2 year intervals. She said that I will be better off because I will not be subjected to the radiation and also, breast cancer is not a problem for older women because they have a different kind of cancer that doesn''t kill them. I don''t feel good about this . . . do I not matter now that I am 70 years old. I understood that the incidence of breast cancer in greater in older women.I assume the GP is using statistical knowledge from research but if it is true that here is a chance that older women can get aggressive breast cancer and I am one of them, I would rather have regular mammograms so that it could be identified earlier rather than later.Thank you for reading this and I would appreciate your comments. With every good wish,Marion in Australia.
A: hhmmm. here in the US we want women to get mammograms annually including after age 70. If you were in a nursing home with other ailments that would result in your leaving this world due to heart failure or some other illness then it makes sense to not be getting an ambulance to transport you for a mammogram. but a woman at age 70, physically okay, should still be getting breast imaging done. Q:
What are the survival rates of different kinds of cancer in different countries of world?
A: That''s a tall order for information to type out here, so I''ll leave you with a link that should (hopefully) answer your question. There was a recent study comparing the relative survival rates for a variety of cancers throughout the world known as the ''Concord study''. You should be able to read about their findings here: http://www.asl.bergamo.it/portale/rassegnastampa.nsf/%28$all%29/2A0B309173849326C1257489002C9A75/$file/CONCORD.pdf If not, there should be a copy of the article available for purchase here: http://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S1470204508701797 Or you can probably find it in a local university library. Here''s the citation: cancer survival in five continents:...

Q:
are they chinese medicines known to be helpful with different kinds of cancer and disorders ? how effective
A: hello,my friend, cancer can not be cured with alternative medicine(chinese meds).chinese medicine is no more different than taking the right vitamins,it is used for the prevention of illness,or minor illness.....mrfoot56. Hi liveboy, Chinese medicine practices an immune-enhancing herbal therapy, however, for maximum benefit, it needs to be practiced in addition to chemo and radiation therapy. Reports have evidences that it actually protects the immune system and increases the survival rate. Also certain antitoxin herbs slow down tumor rate and help in dissolving the tumor. When combined with modern techniques with the help of mutationist, chinese medicine helps to minimize the side effects...

Q:
I have just completed 4 rounds of AC and 4 of Taxotere and finished a month ago. I am now doing radiation. I was diagnosed with Invasive lobular with 1 node being affected when they performed the sentinal node biopsy. I just completed my mamogram with an ultra sound. My last was done back in September when I found the lump on my left breast. My ultrasound showed two areas of concern on my right breast...each about 1/4'' in size.I will have a biopsy in one week. Is it possible that a new cancer has developed in my right breast while I have been going through chemo? Can you have two different kinds of cancer..one in each breast going on at the same time?
A: you can have different types of breast cancer going on in each breast. if they find this is breast cancer in the other side it probably has been there longer than a year but didn''t respond to the chemo you had....

Q:
are they chinese medicines known to be helpful with different kinds of cancer and disorders ? how effective
A: look, it''s not a ''yes/no'' question. there are many types of cancer and many types of alternative treatments. the problem with them is that there''s no clear line on what is BS and what is not. there are several researches about chines medicine and their effectiveness with specific types of cancer. look them up in this site: www.cochrane.org...
