Q:
how much sugar does a person need each day?
A: protein & fat are essential to good health. Sugar is not necessary at all. Fuel calories are necessary but they can come from fats or carbohydrates (but should never come from protein). how many calories are you eating? There are not enough calories in fruits & vegetables to fuel the body. I highly recommend seeds & nuts.
All carbs (even vegetables) are converted to sugar (glucose) in the body. Posted below is a fascinating interview with Dr.Richard Bernstein (the diabetes specialist & a type 1 diabetic) on youtube where he demonstrated how whole grain bread turned to glucose within one second in his mouth! He says the exact thing would happen with corn or an apple as...

Q:
how many grams of protein does a person have to have post op?
A: The protein mfrs would prefer 1g per lb of body wt. I think that might bea LITTLE difficult for some of US. We use 60g of supplement as a base forany WLS pt. If you plateau, go to 90g a day or if you are working out inaddition to regular "life exercise". For someone with more than150cm bypassed, 90g for daily, maybe 120g for extra. I am more distal thanthat so keep between 150-180g a day, of supplement. I eat meats and such, but never count them toward my protein total. Calcium CITRATE (not tums)is the preferred form, and we don''t take less than 1500mg (elementalcalcium). About your protien needs- it is based on your "ideal" bodyweight- not how much you weigh at the time....

Q:
how does a person maintain weight during chemotherapy?
A: sorry my friend it is an unfortunate sideeffect of the treatment. both my bro & sis lost a lot of weight, but once treatment stops it will return but only very slowly. you kinda lose your appetite for a long time!! It''s hard to maintain weight during chemo b/c of the nausea/vomiting, anorexia and general loss of appetite that these people endure. Supplemental shakes such as boost or ensure can provide calories if solid food cannot be eaten. Small, frequent meals, usually of soft bland food such as pudding, mashed potatoes may be tolerable. If a persons weight drops too low, their doctor will probably admit them to the hospital for parenteral nutrition which is intravenous nutrition (TPN and Lipids). If the MD decides it is necessary to continue this once the...

Q:
does a person that is experiancing low blood sugar experiance personality changes?
A: Low blood sugar will cause u to be irritable, very hungry and shaky, if it goes too low you could pass out or become confused and then pass out. MLGABLE is correct!! Yes, there are mood changes as the previous answers have stated. If one has hypoglycemia, the best thing to do is: 1)Give them a small drinking box of juice, some pop, or a glucose tablet. Recheck their blood sugar 15 minutes later. 2) If they are still hypoglycemic, repeat step one until their blood sugar is in the safe range. 3) If they are in the safe range give them some carbs (e.g. bread) and some protein (e.g. meat, peanut-butter) to prevent anothe hypoglycemic episode. In Canada the normal range is between 4-7. The States uses a different measurement system. Things...

Q:
Anyone know about Gallstones? does the Gallbladder need to be removed?
A: Gallstones are nothing but oxalic acid crystals that gets embedded in the Gallbladder. Depending on the condition whether chronic or acute as well as the amount of pain one goes through one can decide on the treatment. If there are few Gallstones and the problem in its initial stages one can treat by medicines prescribed by physicians. One must avoid eating tomatoes, cucumber and other fruits and vegetables known to have high contents of oxalic acid. however, if pain persists and the condition is acute one can go for laser therapy. In a worst condition it is advisable to get it operated. The only disadvantage after the operation is that one passes urine which is strongly yellow in colour due to the presence of bile in urine. Nothing to worry. There are alternative...

Q:
does a person have the same potential to build muscle without steroids as someone who does use steroids?
A: Actually Jefferson is very wrong, it is very easy to pass the test, because they already know they are getting tested, its not random. Check this out, a former Mr. Olympia when they had testing for steroids got caught when this company got caught selling steroids and other drugs over the internet. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=2781674 Another article about an undercover bodybuilder who regularly competes in IFBB competitions. The first question should answer your question and put to shame jefferson. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/undercover2.htm Also Jefferson, why do you think theres a seperate comptetion from the rest where its just for NATURAL bodybuilding? Where they use supplements but not stuff like Anabolic Steroids, Human Growth Hormone and Insulin shots and...

Q:
how many carb does a diabetic need
A: I don''t think there is a magic number. Everyone needs carbs in a healthy, balanced diet. We need fruits, vegetables, grains...and all of these contain carbs. But as a diabetic we have to find the right balance between keeping our glucose levels in check (less carbs) and getting the right amount of vitamins, nutrients, fiber.... I would rather sacrifice a .1 or .2 or even .5 on my 1ac in order to achieve a better balance of diet. i would say 30 to 40% of your calories should come from carbs. So if you need 1800 calories a day, 540 to 720 calories should come from carbs, so that''s 135 to 180g of carbs. So you need to pick the right carbs and space them out not to shoot up your glucose levels. If you don''t eat carbs, you will ingest protein or fat. Both have...
