Q:

i have iron deficiency anemia and on iron tablets do i need to give tea and chocolate

A: Hi, You don?t need to quit tea and chocolates, if you have anemia. It is just that you should take foods rich iniron like meat, poultry, eggs, vegetables (especially green leafy) and cereals (especially those fortifiedwith iron). iron supplements are absorbed best in empty stomach; however they can cause nausea, black stoolsand constipation. iron absorption is decreased by certain foods containing phytates so, it should be taken atleast 1-2 hrs after food or tea. Hope this helps. Take care....

Q:

possible milk consumption iron-deficiency anemia

A: It would be unusual for iron deficiency anemia to cause these problems. Most likely he has contracted a viral stomach illness. Children his age typically will have around 10-12 viral infections per year (mostly in the winter season). This means that they basically go from one infection to the next. Large amounts of milk consumption can cause iron deficiency which leads to anemia. Unfortunately, the screening used at most WIC centers only tests for hemoglobin levels. This method is very inaccurate for diagnosing iron deficiency. I would recommend that your son see his pediatrician for a CBC...

Q:

Help for iron deficiency anemia symptoms?

A: Your regular doctor can at least order a blood test to check your thyroid functions. You may still need to be seen by an endocrinologist, but you can get started with your GP if nothing else. If your doc comes back and says you''re borderline, or quotes you a number of 3 or higher, get to the endocrinologist. I have Hashimoto''s (hypothyroid) and was utterly exhausted prior to being diagnosed. My head felt like it was wrapped in a wool blanket a lot. Hypothyroidism can also impact your menstruation. So, at the very least, this is one blood test you should get done sooner rather than later....

Anxiety and iron deficiency anemia

A: Hi Samster, I am not sure what type of anxiety symptoms you are experiencing, but anemia can cause a rapid heart beat which if your heart is beating fast, can cause you to feel anxious. How is your doctor treating your anemia and did he say what caused your iron level to drop? Citalopram (Celexa) is used for the management of depression. It also has been tested in persons with obsessive- compulsive disorders and panic disorders. If you have been taking this medication for one year with no improvment, I would suggest that you speak to your physician regard a dose or medication change. Perhaps if you are not already doing so, a specialist or Psychiatrist might be able to help you better being that is their specialty....
