Q:

my 84 old grandma has undergone an operation on her pelvic girdle it was asuccess, and her healing is fast but whateveris fed to her she vomits it outand a constant nausea felling is always with her inspite of administeringpantodacinjection and injectio

A: Hi nids17, thanks for writing in this forum. On the basis of your post, it is obvious that your grandma is ina post-operative condition with anaemia (low hemoglobin) with severe gastritis (hyperacidity) and nottolerating orally well. It can be due to many reasons. A severe gastritis can result in nausea, vomiting andpoor oral intake, which may occur due to medications, particularly pain-killers, but may also occur due togastric ulcers in a post-operative stress period. Other reasons may include infection (particularlysepticemia), metabolic causes (such as deranged electrolytes, high blood urea nitrogen, poor diabetic control, ketoacidosis, etc), uncontrolled blood pressure, and neurological causes. A continuing oozing of blood fromgastric mucosal ulcers can cause...

Q:

96 year old grandma CT scan

A: Yes she has a SMALL benign (non cancerous) brain tumor, a meningioma. It is of NO consequence to her general, neurological or mental condition. And it is not of great medical concern here and now - nor probably for the future! The important thing here is that she suffers from senile and ateriosclerotic dementia as showed by the fact that her brain has shrunk and that there are signs of blood vessel disease resulting in a declined blood supply to her brain. There may also be some effects of a so called low pressure hydrocephalus due to a decreased circulation of cerebrospinal fluid. Anyway her mental problems as you describe them support the evidence of the CT scan. A patient in this condition should not live alone but be taken care of in a nursing home or a similar facility! She is...
Q:

Hi my 71 year old grandma had a hysterectomy done 10 days ago and 3 days ago she started experiencing vaginal bleedingas well as stomach cramps. Is this normal?

A: Hi,No, this is not normal. This may be due to stitch prolapse after hysterectomy. Surgeries at this age generallyhave such problems as the tissues are very weak. Anyways, there is nothing to panic as the problem can besolved easily. Visit the operating surgeon for a follow up. Hope this helps you. Please keep us posted for anyfurther queries. Take care and regards!...

Q:

My 86 yr old grandma has recently been getting mad ..

A: Have you spoken to her doctor about this? Ronda, Skitch is right.  What you are describing here are classic symptoms of Alzheimer''s.  I went through this myself, so I have some idea what you are going through.  Your very best course of action is to get your Grandmother medical help, and perhaps some in-home care from a professional, at least to begin with.  I wish you the very best. You received 2 excellent answers (thumbs up).  I would like to add several comments: 1.  You have to remember that she is getting very old      and that has several consequences.  2.  It is well known that elderly people get more extreme      in the character they had. ...

Q:

81 year old grandma has uncontrolled hypertension.

A: Hi Ana,   Your pharmacist may be a good resource to discuss the pros/cons of different medications that you could then discuss with her physician.   All the best, Lisa Nelson RD 7 Natural Ways to Lower Blood Pressure...

Q:

98 year old

A: Hi Jill, Burns of this depth (3rd degree through the dermis and 4th degree into muscle and facia) are scar producers that can result in permanent disability since the resulting scar tissue is not flexible and reduces the ability to move the associated limbs and muscles. Additional complications result from the debris in the blood from the burns which together with fluid loss and infection can result in kidney failure. At her age a 12% deep tissue burn is a very serious event but potentially survivable. The treatment would be to provide plenty of IV fluids (fluid rescusitation), antibiotics to prevent infection and some skin grafts to mantain flexibility inany key area (chest area to insure that burn scars do not redce her ability to breath, and key joints). SPontaneous healing depends...

A: i think confront him and say u want to spend lot of more time with him, for which it is very much neccesary for him to talk to doctor even persuade him my saying that doctors are life guarders He should contact a counselor. It''s his decision, make sure you support him and respect his choice. he sounds like my dad. 74 years old. got physical to go into army when he was 17 and went a few years ago (by ambulance - he was OUT Cold when paramedics came. dad woke up in hospital and walked out). these are the only 2 times he''s been seen be doctors. i think it''s a ''country boy'' thing, really. have you ever noticed how someone can be perfecly healthy, go to the doc for a check up, be fine, and die of heart attack while in the parking lot? or...

A: grandma....I was a grandmother at 42 and it''s GREAT...When people hear my grandson call me ''grandma'' they are like "YOUR a grandmother"? it''s nice. For me, I can''t imagine being called anything else but grandma, it''s who I am to him.. Again, to me, stuff happens, life goes on and either we adapt to it or............................................we don''t. Good Luck and congrats..   Hi there, I have been a nana for 18 months and believe me, they just are such a joy and truthfully when so many other grandparents say "it is different'' to your own children it strangely is very different and very true, our granddaughter has captured my husbands heart so much, he is so in love with her as our...

Q:

How do I explain my mother's leg amputation to my 5-year-old daughter?

A: tell her, if you are a bad girl, this is what happens to u. okay now in all seriousness, stop trying to not hurt ur daughter, if u keep treating her that way she will become weak and emotionally instable. just be honest and tell the truth, sure she''ll be scared maybe but its part of life sometimes. u want ur daughter to not feel scared at all till shes older? that way she''ll get issues later. tell her that grandma''s leg was sick so they had to fix it by making the booboo go away. Tell her that grandma will be okay. I talk like that to my brother and sister all the time becuase it''s less scary for them Tell her God has it because it was sick and making her grandma too sick. tell her that...
