Q:
I am a cyclist, I am having chronic pain in my right glute where it touches the bike seat. The only thing I''ve found that helps are a few stretches that concentrate on the piriformis. However, my doctors say it''s not piriformis syndrome. I feel pain when I touch a spot that''s on the lowest point of my pelvis, the part that touches a chair when I sit. I am inclined to think that this may be related to my cycling. Do you have any suggestions?
A: A good place to start would be getting better padding on the seat cover or in your biking shorts. You can find both of these solutions easily online or at local retailers....

Q:
Is there a way to prevent of fix lower knee pain when running?
A: 1. Work on strenghtening the quadriceps. Start your run with a gentle walk and increase pace slowly to a jog. Use a treadmill or flat surface. Origin may be incorrect running style ie heel striker runner or forefoot runner. Look at www.runnersrescue.com 2. Running shoes is the first step. .if your sneaker cost les than $70 and is made by anyone other than Nike Asics or Saucony- they suck stretch quads very well, and stretch shins( kneel down on the shins and lean back) then mix in soft surface this should solve your problem and dont do "stairs".as a workout..ever...

Q:
mid to upper back pain when I am running?
A: 1. not a slipped disc probably a stitch in the plurer the sack that encases lungs and organs to buffer against ribs or might have strained an intercostal muscle the muscles between each rib do plenty of warm ups before a run and warm downs after a run and enquire at a chiropractor for massage of muscles and bones around rib cage & back areas 2. How old are you? Have you told all this to your doctor? How is your fluid intake? Are you doing light warm ups before you stretch? So many possiblities for solutions here. Really need to provide more information. 3. If you actually think it is a slipped disk, then for goodness sakes STOP running!!!! Get to a chiropractor immediately. You may simply need a lower back adjustment. Your back is nothing to play around with and back

Q:
is it normal to get a lower stomach pain when you cough and pregnant?
A: 1. I have a nasty cold right now and thats happening to me. Doctors say its a mixture of your belly stretching and the baby getting a little freaked and kicking. 2. probably fine just bcause ur muscles are relaxing i wouuld check with ur doc if ur worried n work on ur pelvic floor muscles 3. Yeh that is normal. At this stage in the game your uterus is starting to stretch at a pretty fast rate so coughing and sneezing or any sudden movements will give you some pains in your groin and lower abdomen. It''s called round ligament pain. No worries....

Q:
I have a pain when I put my heels down, but on the top of my foot?
A: 1. well that''s probably just your muscle tensing up. Try stretching. Otherwise, I''m not exactly sure. 2. OK I had this problem. I''m going to try and explain it cause its hard to understand. when you drop your heel you are stretching you''re calf muscles. You should feel no pain. However, If you drop your heel AND try to press down with your toes it will hurt at the top of your ankle. I used to do it cause I guess I was trying to ''hold on'' haha. If you take a breath and just drop your heel and keep the rest of your foot relaxed you should be fine....

Q:
Crackling sounds when stretching back
A: Has anyone else heard of this before? My Doctor still has no idea why I am able to make that crackling sound I''m now thinking that it has nothing to do with my back but maybe has something to do with my right shoulder instead I had a bike accident about 15 years ago & injured my collarbone I have a lump there now & it''s a bit weaker than my left side & sometimes I get a little pain if I lean on it for too long. when I stretch my back my shoulder moves as well & maybe the crackling noises are caused by my collarbone Does that make sense & should I be concerned about my shoulder? thanks...

Q:
Had a mammo on 11/2/06 showing 6 mm spiculated density in lateral right breast, & ultrasound found a 4 x 5 mm hypoechoic area w/ posterior shadowing in same area, consistent w/ a breast malignancy, & recommended a stereotactic core biopsy of the lesion; it was listed as a category 4 suspicious abnormality. The ob-gyn & I also found a lump in 10/06 in left armpit but 11/2/06 sonogram found no evidence of any cystic or solid mass. Dr. said sonogram may not pick up all lesions. Lump on my rt thyroid has regrown since fine needle aspiration on 5/05 & the area has recently become very tender & often painful when neck is stretched. TSH tested w/in normal limits in 8/06. 1) Would it reduce risk if I have a general surgeon biopsy w/ touch prep or a frozen section while I wait so that if tissue is cancerous it can be removed at that time w/ a lumpectomy? vs. having surgeon do a stereotactic core biopsy? 2) Is there any connection to the mass on my right thyroid & the breast lump? 3) I read on your website that a category 4 puts it at 20% risk of being cancerous. Does that percentage increase if it is a spiculated density &/or a hypoechoic area w/ posterior shadowing? If so, what''s the percentage increase? 4) Related to lump found in left oxilla, how often does a mass not appear in a mammo or ultrasound? Thanks
A: 1. see a breast surgical oncologist-- not a general surgeon. and NO frozen section on breast tissue. unwise. frozen section only appropriate on sentinel lymph node for known breast cancer in the breast.2. not known for you yet... women who have had mantel radiation as a child do have a connection between these two.3. spiculated ups the odds of being cancer to some degree. if you want to come to us call 443-287-2778....

Q:
Knee pain. when legs are folded for some time and on straightening there is acute pain in the back of knee.?
A: 1. I get this sometimes. I believe it is tendons that tighten up after being in a relaxed position after a while and then they loosen up after a while and I can walk normal again. I found a website that has some knee stretches and exercises that may help. Dont forget to mention it to your doctor at your next appointment...never disregard pain...it could be the onset of something more serious like arthritis. 2. It is looking that your legs having no pain while walking. I think it is due to some nerve pain or internal injury. Try for some massage etc if it not remove so consult for doctor. It is looking some internal injury. 3. It may be due to rheumatism. Apply ''THROMBOFOB'' (availbale with any medical store, 20gm,...

Q:
Does anyone get inner ankle pain (or any pain) when they run?
A: 1. Sounds like you may just have shin splints. I had them often when I first enlisted. Particularly on runs and road marches. I also have been told I bounce. What a shin splint is essentially is exactly what it sounds like. Your bone is actually splinting off and can cause severe to moderate pain. The only cure is rest. If you''re in the service, go to the aid station and get yourself on a light profile where you run and ruck at your own pace. Or perhaps a light indoor duty profile for an extended period of time depending on the amount of discomfort and pain you may be having. As for shoes, I can tell you ASICS are fantastic. Stay away from Nike and Adidas and the like. They seem to wear out more quickly. I hope...

Q:
pain when in new environment
A: I just want to wish you a happy trip and to stress to you how important it is to monitor your pain level and not let it get out of control. I went out of town with my husband and daughter last weekend and spent much of the trip crying. I just didn''t take the meds I needed when I needed them and didn''t take the time to rest. It was too much for me so I want to really suggest that you have someone else drive, don''t pick up anything that you shouldn''t or carry an overloaded purse, and take your meds on time with food. Doing these things should help to make your trip more fun! Best to you! what would happen if I had a bad pain day - especially because the drive took 2 full days without a lot of stopping. I was...
