Q:
Will taking black cohosh and St. John''s wort help with premenopausal symptoms?
A: Black cohosh and St. John''s wort are often used to help with the symptoms of menopause and perimenopause. Black cohosh has been used for many centuries to ease hot flashes and mood swings. However, studies have mixed results on effectiveness, and there are no long-term studies on side effects, such as liver problems. Antidepressants have been shown to help with mood swings, hot flashes, depression, and anxiety. St. John''s wort can help by increasing serotonin levels, similar to prescription antidepressants, so do not take it if you are already on a prescription antidepressant that increases serotonin levels. As with all treatment options, you should contact your doctor to see what is the best one for you. For more information on menopause and drugs, please visit...

Q:
Hi,I''m 48 premenopausal. I have a carcinoma 1.3x1.0x1.0cm,Histologic grade 2,Extent of tumor: solitary. Ductal carcinoma in-situ comprises approx. 5% of the tumor. My margin inthe Anterior, Posterior, were less than 1mm and Lateral more than 6mm but were clear, and the lymph nodes were clear. I''m progesterone positive. My question''s, which know seems to want to answer, is1) If I''m progesterone positive why can''t I have estrogen to relieve premenopausal symptoms?2) If tamoxifen is so important, why don''t they put you on it the minute you leave the operating room?I won''t start it for 2 months after the operation, is that normal?3) With endrometriosis, stage 3 is there anything I can take to avoid a peroid every month?I am very frustrated thank you for this site!
A: first, find out what is being done about the margins that aren''t clear..1. there is a link between them... that''s why taking an anti-estrogen drug like tamoxifen helps women who are PR + too.2. if no additional treatment is recommended following surgery (chemo or radiation) then usually hormonal therapy starts about a month later. it isn''t recommended to take it within 2 weeks of surgery.3. tamoxifen may result in periods stopping....

Q:
Hi, I am a 43 yearold female with premenopausal symptoms. I am taking a homeopathic form of hormone replacement. I recently went for my annual mamo and was told that I have ''a subcentimter density inferiorly on the implant displacement right MLO view. This may reflect an ovreall increase in parenchymal density'', and was scheduled for additional evaluation. The problem is they didn''t have an opening for another 2 weeks so I now have to wait. Can you give me any info now to help me understand what they are talking about? I am a little nervous. Thank you
A: don''t be nervous... most of the time findings are benign....

Q:
What is Premenopause?
A: Premenopause, often referred to as perimenopause, is the phase in a woman’s life just before the onset of menopause, which is when a female’s menstrual cycle permanently ceases. The average age for a woman to begin experiencing premenopausal symptoms is 45, but women as young as 25 and as old as 70 can also exhibit signs of premenopause. The length of premenopause varies from woman to woman, but typically lasts from one to six years. During premenopause, a woman’s hormone production begins fluctuating and declining, which can cause a wide variety of symptoms. A majority of premenopausal women experience changes in their menstrual cycle. As a woman’s estrogen levels begin to decline, the...

Q:
premenopausal acne
A: As one enters menopause, ovarian function declines, and is eventually minimal, which means a loss of estrogen. Estrogen is considered the primary female hormone, and serves to counteract what are considered ''androgenic'' (masculine) symptoms such as acne. Therefore, your doctor might want to consider giving you estrogen. This can be accomplished in two ways. The first way is using birth control pills that are often given at the time of peri-menopause (or ''around menopause''). The birth control pills that appear to help most with acne are the ones that have a relatively higher ratio of estrogenic activity. Examples are Ortho-Cyclen and Ovcon. The second way of getting more estrogen is with what is known as ''hormone replacement therapy'' (HRT). This also consists...
