A: Hi, hiv is a disease which spreads through exchange of body fluids (blood, mucus, saliva, semen and vaginaldischarge) with the infected person. Therefore if your body fluids like saliva, semen or vaginal discharge (itis likely since you had unprotected sexual intercourse) were in contact with person who is infected with hiv,there is a possibility of getting the infection. Universal precautions are maintained in all clinical settings in order to prevent transmission of a number of pathogens (e.g. hiv). Therefore, it is quite likely that you got tested in the right way and there is nothing to worry about the transmission in that setting (unless you faced other issues in that setting, those can transmit hiv).
To get confirmatory result, you have to get tested after window period (the time from infection until a test can detect any change). The average window period with hiv-1 antibody tests is 25 days for subtype B. Antigen testing cuts the window period to approximately 16 days.
