A: Hi, hiv is a disease which spreads through exchange of body fluids (blood, mucus, saliva, semen and vaginaldischarge) with the infected person. Therefore if your body fluids like saliva, semen or vaginal discharge (itis likely since you had unprotected sexual intercourse) were in contact with person who is infected with hiv, there is a possibility of getting the infection. I suggest you to do your ELISA or rapid Tri dot test andlater confirm it with western blot and with result consult your physician. Thanks....

Q:

False neg hiv tests?

A: Hello,If the tests were done beyond the window period you must consider yourself negative. This relates to only when you are not in a window period of 3 to 6 months 3 months being the normal window period for most of the population. rapid testing or traditional ELISA have a high sensitivity and detects the antibodies with an accuracy of over 99%. Thus assuming that you have not engaged in activities that put you to risk to hiv, which may again put you in a window period if ELISA is negative there is virtually no chance that you have hiv and should consider your self hiv negative provided you have used the standard kits for testing. Suppose a...

Q:

inconclusive hiv testing results

A: Response from Dr. Young Hello and thank you for your post. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis; one type of false negative testing results from patients who have very low CD4 counts (like you)- such can be the case where the patient''s immune system is so impaired that there are impaired antibody responses to hiv. This could explain why the lesser sensitive oral rapid test was negative, but the more sensitive blood test was positive (and confirmed with the hiv viral load). I hope this helps,BY...

Q:

hiv testing?

A: It impossible to tell I will tell you how many are infected & then you do the math. I'll post the site it came from if your looking for more answerers. Keep in mind this is just in the USA. AIDS was first identified in the USA in 1981. The epidemic has now spread to every part of the USA and to all sectors of society. It is thought that more than one million people are living with hiv in the USA and that more than half a million have died after developing AIDS. American hiv surveillance data are not comprehensive so many statistics must be based on reports of AIDS diagnoses. In interpreting such AIDS statistics, it is important to remember that they do not correspond to new hiv infections. Most people live with...

Q:

How effective is at-home hiv testing kit?

A: Dear Reader, Getting tested for hiv can be an anxiety-producing experience, so it is completely understandable that hearing rumors about a past partner''s hiv-status would make getting tested even scarier. But it sounds like you realize that getting tested is an important part of staying well-informed and proactive about your health and the health of your future or current partners, and therefore a very good idea.  There are many home-testing hiv kits on the market that claim to be FDA-approved and 99 percent accurate. Q:

am i at risk for hiv please help

A: Hello Rofaly, Universal precautions are maintained in all clinical settings in order to prevent transmission of a number of pathogens (e.g. hiv). Therefore, it is quite likely that you got tested in the right way and there is nothing to worry about the transmission in that setting (unless you faced other issues in that setting, those can transmit hiv). To get confirmatory result, you have to get tested after window period (the time from infection until a test can detect any change). The average window period with hiv-1 antibody tests is 25 days for subtype B. Antigen testing cuts the window period to approximately 16 days. Most commonly used form of hiv
