What Are the Common Causes of social Anxiety in Children?

A: Although the causes of social anxiety in children are not definitively established by the scientific community, it is suspected that genetics, environment and life experiences play a role. Studies of identical twins have found that anxiety disorders often appear in both children, suggesting that there is a genetic cause for the disorder. It is suspected that children who are raised in secluded or socially isolated surroundings might grow to avoid or fear social situations. Traumatic experiences at school or other social situations also might cause social anxiety in children. Treatments for the disorder typically focus on reducing the anxiety through examining...

What Are the Different Types of social Anxiety Therapy?

A: social anxiety therapy typically involves individual psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, and may involve medication. At times, doctors will prescribe patients to undergo both treatments to adequately and more effectively overcome this disorder. Depending on the severity of the disorder, as well as the patientís willingness to participate, group meetings may also be coordinated for social anxiety therapy. While some people may only experience anxiety in certain social situations, such as being asked to speak in front of a crowd, others may experience more disruptive...

How Do I Choose the Best social Anxiety Self-Help?

A: social anxiety is a condition in which people feel an abnormally high fear of social situations. These situations could include things like attending parties, family gatherings, speaking in public, or even going to work. Unlike some of the other anxiety disorders, many people with this condition would find doing something like attending a support group extremely hard, especially early in treatment. A support group is a social situation, and that may occasionally preclude it as the best form of support. Similarly, going to a counselor at first might be very difficult, and this is why many turn to social anxiety self-help. That being said, some people truly benefit from groups, therapists,...

I need help for my social anxiety, GAD, OCD, and bipolar. What are some medications that help?

A: 12 Jul 2011 Hey alwaystired, The medications for your conditions are endless. There are the antidepressants that also treat anxiety of which you mentioned three, Paxil, Zoloft and Wellbutrin. Then there are medicines like Buspar for anxiety. Then there are antipsychotics for the bipolar symptoms such as risperidone or seroquel. The choice of meds is a trial and error sort of deal as what works for one doesn''t necessarily work for another. One size doesn''t fit all. If you need to further treat symptoms of depression and anxiety then Paxil, Zoloft or Wellbutrin might be appropriate. I personally would probably choose the Paxil or the Zoloft to try first. The Wellbutrin can always be added later if necessary. Does the doctor feel you need further medication? What are your symptoms that...

A: Dear Reader, About 5 million Americans have some form of social anxiety disorder, also known as social phobia. Beta blockers are usually used for high blood pressure, but they also can be used to help relieve some of the physical symptoms of anxiety, such as sweating and rapid heartbeat. How Effective Is Hypnosis for social Anxiety?

A: Hypnosis for social anxiety can be very effective, but the degree to which this treatment works depends on the person.
