Q:

what Are the Different Types of PKD?

A: Polycystic kidney disease, commonly referred to as PKD or PCKD, is a genetic condition in which the kidneys develop multiple cysts. A cyst is an abnormal sac in which gas, liquid, or semi-solid material is enclosed. The cysts that occur as a result of PKD are filled with fluid, vary in size, and cause a dramatic enlargement of the kidneys. Though it primarily affects the kidneys, PKD can also create cysts in the liver, colon, and pancreas and damage the blood vessels, heart, and brain. There are two types of PKD, autosomal dominant and autosomal recessive. The kidney is a paired organ located in the posterior, or toward the back, of the abdomen. These organs are...
Q:

what can cause pain in the lower back and when urinating?

A: Its a fricken'' kidney stone! Duh! It''s POSSIBLE it''s a kidney stone, but it''s also likely it''s a urinary tract infection that has spread to her kidneys since it hurts when she urinates. Regardless, we''re all far-removed, and I''ve not yet encountered a doctor on this site. It''s foolish to rely on a bunch of teenagers and adults (who aren''t medical professionals) for a medical diagnosis. :) Tell her to go get checked out. I did tell her go to to doctor but she will not listen. Then she''ll either get over it on her own, or it''ll get so bad she''ll HAVE to go in; either way, you can''t really help somebody who is stubborn and unwilling to go in....

Q:

Blood in urine, negative culture, male

A: Hi LisaLou, There are a few possible reasons. One is that the bacteria that is causing the infection may be difficult to culture. This is generally unlikely. Another, very real possibility is that he has a virus causing the infection. There are several viruses that can cause urinary tract infections and will not show up on a culture. These will generally resolve in 5-7 days or so. Also, if the urine was very dilute during the initial part of the infection there may have not been enough bacteria present to grow on culture. If his symptoms do not resolve I would recommend he follow up with the urologist for further evaluation. Cephalexin (Keflex) is generally quite adequate for UTI''s so if it is a bacteria it almost certainly will be covered by the antibiotics. If the infection is also...

Q:

what should i eat i was diagnosed as borderline diabetes.?

A: 150 is kind of high for a "borderline". Your first task is to lose weight if you are the slightest bit overweight. Basically, the diet is to cut calories. You can eat too many calories of beefsteak and it will kick your sugar up. Here is one of many links to Diabetic diets. Treat yourself as if you were a Diabetic. " Borderline" is too reassuring, and people tend not to take things seriously. http://www.actos.com/takeaction/healthyeating.aspx?utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=cpc First stay away from simple sugars. High fructose corn syrup, it is in a lot of things. Keep these intakes low. Eat on a regular time if possible. Stick to the food groups suggested by the new food pyramid. Oatmeal and cereals fill you up and keep your digestive tract busy. Exercise burns sugars....

Q:

kidney Pain..dehydration...breathing difficulty..

A: You''re complaints are interesting, and not unusual. I presume that you are premenopausal and that you have regular periods. Lets dissect your complaint and try to answer each aspect of it separately and see if we can make some sense of it all. First, if you have regular menses, does the abdominal and feet swelling occur around the time of your periods? Secondly I am not convinced that what you describe as ''kidney pain'' is in fact what you believe it to be. The kidneys have only two anatomical areas that might result in the symptom of pain, one is the fibrous capsule that surrounds the organ itself, the other is in the collecting area called the renal pelvis., where the urine drains out...
