Q:
what is Lumbar Degenerative Disc Disease?
A: Lumbar degenerative disc disease is a process that happens to the discs of the spine, usually as people age. The discs along the spine are soft and compress easily to protect the vertebrae and absorb shock. Although degenerative disc disease can occur at any place along the spine, it is most often seen in the lumbar region. The lumbar region is the lower portion of the back. It carries the brunt of the weight of the body. As the body ages, the discs gradually degenerate, or break down. When this process happens in the...

Q:
I suffer from back pain due to a ruptured disk w/ sequestration. I am 39 yrs old and for the past 4 months have tried everything. Epidurals, chiropractic therapy, and pain medications. I am now seeking surgery and not sure which type of doctor to choose. Nerosurgeon due to the bone fragments that shattered into my spinal fluid or an orthapedic surgeon due to the ruptured disc.
A: YOU MIGHT WANT TO READ THE TESTIMONIALS ON PROLOTHERAPY. See a neurosurgeon and make sure he comes with references. I had a three level fusion and the pain has been reduced at least 50%,. but i am still working on strengthening almost one year later. I did chiropractor, injections, pain management and nothing worked for me for longer than a couple weeks of maybe a 20% reduction in pain. Surgery was my last option and tho it was hard, i am glad i did it. Most days are good now but i am very careful not to overdo it. no disrespect to anyone is a ruptured disc the same as a shattered disc. and how does it happen........... reason i have herniated d

Q:
cervical ruptured disc
A: Tough call Sherri,
You know surgery rarely helps anybody and once you have it you are along for the ride. They should reserve spine surgery to only the absolute worst cases since they rarely work out. If I were you I would try over door home cervical traction and find a Chiropractor that does towel traction. This works 90% of the time for herniated discs, with prior surgery, scar tissue, chronic degenerative post-op changes, the outcome is probably 50/50. It is still worth a try since waiting won"t cause any irreparable harm.
If it isn"t too late, I try to talk people out of surgery, then I don"t have to deal with the inevitable poor...

Q:
Will having epidural shots help my back from nerve and ruptured disc pain?
A: I have to say very seldom does this ever work. Do not get your hopes up. All it is a direct dosage of steroids. Get a real Pain Management Physician. They can get you on Methadone or Suboxone. Suboxone has a componet better known as Subutex. Now that is used for pain. The other half of the drug will help you get off all those supossed pain killers, without the withdrawls. You do know being on all those drugs you can not legally drive !! You can drive with Suboxone or Methadone... They do not impair your driving. I have gotten many epidural shots and everyone is different in the way they respond. They can work some but you will probably need some kind of pain med for

Q:
what was your experience with a ruptured disc?
A: I have facet disease, degenerative disc desease, bone spurs growing into the spine, sciatica, severe nerve damage, 2 herniated discs, a rupture disc, and a slipped vertebrae all between L4 & S1. They wanted to do a discetomy & fusion on me years ago --- I told them where to shove it! My mom had that done some time ago, and I understand medicine improves every day, but she never walked again after that. I also know a couple of people who have had the surgery in more recent years, and still have the same complaints of pain as before + mobility issues that weren''t present before surgery. My advice: DON''T do the surgery unless you''ve tried...

My mom had 2 ruptured discs repaired in April of 2008 (they removed the discs, ground them up, mixed with bone cement, and replaced them using titanium rods and screws for support). She was 73 at the time. She has always had good, firmmuscle tone and s
A: Hi,Has she lost too much weight after the surgery? People tend to loose the elasticity of skin after the age of60. The collagen and elastin content reduce even if vitamin C supplements are taken. After one point, toningup of the underling muscles also donot help. A skin specialist will be able to treat her condition. Maybe shecould be given botox shots or collagen enhancing creams. Please talk to a dermatologist regarding these. Hopethis helps you. Take care and regards!...

Headaches and Cervical ruptured Disc
A: Hi! I had daily headaches up until my surgery January 11th and now I have had very few. I do think that it is related. It sounds like the pain is normal too. what did your MRI show? Thanks for responding. I don''t have a copy of my MRI - just what the visit summary showed which was ruptured disc - C5 - C6. Going to ask the neurosurgeon for a copy of the MRI when I go today....

Q:
what is the most sucesseful proceedure for a ruptured disc?
A: Depending upon the extent of your herniated (ruptured) disc, there are many ways to deal with it. Resting for the first couple of days is recommended but not for too long. Alternate with warm moist heat and ice for a few days. Then physical therapy is usually recommended, to get your body moving again. This may take weeks. If the disc is pressing upon a nerve, microsurgery might be necessary to remove the part of the disc that is causing the problem. Please read these articles to see what

Q:
ruptured discs ddd of 3-4 4-5 L5-s1
A: Hi Jennifer and thanks for writing,
You really want to gently stretch the muscles to help them relax. I suggest the best way to do this is to go try Pilates; but do not go to a group session in a gym as that"s not real Pilates and can do more harm then good, find a one-on-one Pilates instructor who can work with you and develop a gentle and safe exercise regime.
I hope this helps and I wish you all the best. i too have had chronic back/hip pain with occasional sciatica and have found Pilates to be the best method to relieve my pain. Try to find an instructor trained in Classic Pilates too as it"s the best.
