Q:
Does an MRI of the cervical spine show C8?
A: There''s a technical explanation for that missing C8. There is no C8 vertebra. T The neck ends at C7 and the thoracic area begins with T1. BUT, between these 2 vertebrae is the C8 nerve. So you don''t see a C8 vertebra but you can see the C8 nerve exiting between C7 and T1. hugs...............Jenny They do make it hard on us, don''t they? ahhh, thanks Jenny ) You think C8 will be included in it if I ask the tech to make sure? Or does my doctor need to specify on the form C8 as well. I don''t wanna make my doc think i doubt his clinical expertise. what do you think? It should show everything from C3 to C7 and in...

Q:
Trying to understand my mri results of the cervical spine
A: just exactly where is your pain and what overall symptoms are you experiencing in the shoulder and c spine areas?i just went thru a surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in my shoulder(the ''cuff" is where all the tendons kind of meet together?).i had been assuming that at least some of my really bad pain that was in my upper back, shoulder and neck was all coming from just my huge c spine mess when it was also from my torn rotator cuff.this is a VERY common injury that alot of people actually have but don''t really know it til that MRI gets done of the shoulder(i got the MRI done on the shoulder when i started to feel really awful "knife like" jabs...

Q:
I have been diagnosed with a cervical Myelopathy
A: YES - your symptoms sound similar to mine - check my older posts. I also had NO PAIN which meant I procrastinated on getting my walking (gait) issues checked out - by the time I was diagnosed (spinal stenosis) C4-C7 it was pretty much considered an emergency (I had surgery 3 weeks from diagnosis). I even saw a chiro who reviewed my MRI and said yes I needed surgery. At least two years ago artificial disk was not a choice and I was told the few sites doing it would only do one level. I opted for the "older" procedure of cervical laminectomy (they go in from the back, clear the bone spurs, etc and make more room for the cord to move) - its a little more...

Q:
cervical or Thoracic?
A: It''s not the cervical. You''d have arm pain with that. I checked the dermatome for T7-8 and it''s a little below where you described. Pain can refer to elsewhere so I guess it could be. Or it could be something new. But it definitely isn''t your cervical spine. I know cervical. I''m fused from C3 to T1 and going back to go higher. I figure sooner or later I''ll be fused from head to butt! good luck................Jenny Thanks jenny!.....LOL......I hope you get fixed. Im uneasy with the disco on the neck but I guess we can at least rule it out huh? I had a disco done on my lumbar and it was not bad at all.....Im betting the neck...

Q:
neuropathy due to cervical spine injury-surgery
A: Hello Oldncold I have cervical injury which you can read in my signature. I also suffer with polyneuropathy and this has been diagnosed through an EMG. But I did have my neck injury over ten years ago, and didn''t have insurance at that time to see a neurosurgeon and neurologist. I was diagnosed with polyneuropathy several months ago as well as Diabetes, so I do not know if their is a connection. I am sorry that you also suffer with this neuropathy. Q:
what does flattening of the ventral cord mean?
A: Each of our spinal nerves has two roots the ventral (front) root carries motor impulses from the brain and the dorsal (back) root carries sensory impulses to the brain. The ventral and dorsal roots fuse together to form a spinal nerve, and it travels down the spinal canal alongside the cord, until it reaches its exit hole called the foramen at the various spinal levels that goes on to our body parts. If you are talking in your lumbar - the spinal cord does not go all the way down, but the nerve bundle to the lower extremities does. Hope this helps. do you actually have your very own copy of your MRI report that you could just type out what was in the very end in that summary? this

Q:
3 Level cervical Fusion or go to Germany for ADR
A: I have had ACDF on C4/5/6/7 - the same levels you are talking about. My first surgery was in 2004, and I asked about ADR since I had read about it here and on other web sites. I was advised that the disk replacement technology was still in clinical trials (at least in the U.S.), and only on cases involving a single disk. So, there were issues with the maturity of the technology, the number of levels (at least about adjacent levels), and insurance coverage. I had both myelopathy and radiculopathy that were so advanced that I would have risked permanent damage to wait. With so many levels fused I have lost some range of motion, and have some chronic pain now - but no...

Q:
A lot of words, what does it all mean?
A: the one big thing here that REALLY needs to be fully identified is just what is causing that "increased signal intensity" within that c cord area? this could be a few different things but it does need an opinion/eval by at least a good neurosurgeon who can just eval your MRI at that area to at least give you an idea of what could be causing it. its just NOT a ''normal'' type of finding to actually have anywhere within that cord area. it just could be a nothing and having to do with the way the area was scanned or it could be a ''something'' like a lesion of some kind? most common in that cord would be a vascular type like a hemangima? a new tear at c...

Q:
Need GERD control. what meds can I take?
A: You have a lot going on. Are you seeing a GI specialist? It would seem to me that if not you may want to consider adding a GI specialist to your team. You and your doctor might want to consider trying one of the other proton pump inhibitors, trying an H2 blocker (not considered as strong as a PPI but tends to have fewer side effects) or maybe a motility medication to help move things along the GI tract.
There are a lot of different medications available for GERD but you really need someone who will look at your whole picture and work with you to come up with a plan with everything considered.
Best of Luck - Stephanie...

Q:
Anyone else have OA of cervical C1-C2 in neck?
A: I know it has been a long time, but I hope you will still find this helpful.
For some reason, Celebrex works better for me with this type of pain, more so than other NSAIDS. Secondly, warm compresses are wonderful. They sell an ace bandage with a microwavable insert. Just don''t put it on too tight, and be careful not to burn yourself. (Be very careful, this was not meant to be wrapped around your neck obviously.) This supplies directed heat for a very long time.
If you have other cerical nerve problems, try laying down with both hands behind your head. Once again, be careful, I have trashed my one shoulder from doing...
