Q:
what is lumbar degenerative Disc Disease?
A: lumbar degenerative disc disease is a process that happens to the discs of the spine, usually as people age. The discs along the spine are soft and compress easily to protect the vertebrae and absorb shock. Although degenerative disc disease can occur at any place along the spine, it is most often seen in the lumbar region. The lumbar region is the lower portion of the back. It carries the brunt of the weight of the body. As the body ages, the...

Q:
what is lumbar degenerative disc disease
A: lumbar degenerative disc disease is terrible sounding but its actually fairly common and often doesn''t cause major problems. For intstance its estimated that from 30% of adults from 30-50 years old have lumbar degenerative disc disease. It occurs when the space between the discs in the back begins to lessen. The inflammation that occupies it can cause pain but interestingly enough the pain tends to lessen over time.

Q:
lumbar, degenerative disk disease
A: /
Dear Carol,
Your question is difficult to answer based on the information provided, and I will try to explain why.
Elderly patients commonly suffer from many different problems in their back, all of which cause pain in the back. Some of them also cause problems in the legs, such as pain and numbness or inability to walk properly.
On the other hand, every patient over the age of 80, will have an abnormal CT and MRI tests, since the normal process of ageing causes many changes to the spine.
A "herniated disc" is usually found in patients under 60 years of age. 81 year old patients usually will have a multitude of other changes in their backs. In any case, even if a herniated disc

Q:
RSD or degenerative Disc Disease? Severe burning feet!!
A: I have some of the same stuff going on. I have the herniated discs, Degenearative Disc Disease, stenosis and what ever stuff going on in my back due to an injury at work. The surgeon feels surgery won''t help. I had an epidural which didn''t work. I had torn ligaments and tendons in my wrist, had surgery and now have rsd in the wrist. I also had tarsel tunnel in my ankle but the dr wouldn''t operate because of concern of causing the rsd to spread. I get the burning in my feet, the tingling, coldness blah blah. I also have reynauds. I don''t take the drugs because I am one who always seems to have the worst...

Q:
what is degenerative disc disease L5-s1 with small central disc herniation?
A: Answer
DDD is the wearing down of the disks that are located between each of the vertebra in your back. this occurs when the fluid in the disks diminishes often due to old age or injury. The fluid helps to absorb shock and without it they rub together and cause the disks to wear away. Together it would mean the wearing down of the disks between the 5th lumbar vertabra to the 1st sacral vertabre with a small hernia in the central disk. this would be a total of six disks. Hope this helps...

Q:
degenerative Disc Disease - Numbness in Face
A: No, but I think that if you''re having the same symptoms as when you had a mini-stroke before, you should get to the hospital. I hope you''re all right. Hi Joann (I have a sister named Joann), The MRI was done in December of my brain checking for a possible stroke/mini-strokes and it came back normal so I think this is nerve-related to DDD or it might be from the arthritis in my neck. The left side of my neck and all down my shoulder feels like a hard rock, and then there''s this numbness in my face. It''s hard to describe - not actually numbness but feels more like your face has gone to sleep. I have a dr''s appt. this Friday with my...

Q:
I have cervical degenerative disc disease. Mine is extremely painful. is this no
A: i am a chiropractor and specialize in spine related injuries. the disc acts as both a cushion and a spacer between each vertebrae. if a disc is bulging/herniated, that bulge can put pressure on the nerves exiting between each vertebra which causes a "pinched nerve." also if the disc is wearing out (getting thinner) you lose the space between the vertebra, which leaves less room for those nerves to exit--and again can pinch a nerve. the nerves in your cervical spine (neck) go all the way down your arm while the nerves in your lumbar spine (low back) form the sciatic nerve which runs all the way down your leg. if any of these are...
